Patient Access Specialist – On‑Site

About the role

The Department of Patient Access at the University of Miami is seeking a full‑time Patient Access Specialist to support front‑end revenue cycle and clinic operations. This on‑site position coordinates complex duties that directly impact the patient experience.

Key responsibilities

• Obtain, verify, and enter demographic, financial, and clinical information for patient financial clearance.
• Contact patients’ families or physicians’ offices to gather missing insurance details and confirm eligibility.
• Secure authorizations, pre‑certifications, and referrals, and notify patients of any liabilities before service.
• Collaborate with scheduling departments, maintain accurate records, and serve as a lead resource for lower‑level staff.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent; minimum three years of relevant experience.
• Strong attention to detail, ability to handle confidential information, and capacity to work under pressure.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills and outstanding interpersonal abilities.

Required skills

• Proficiency in data entry and accurate documentation.
• Ability to navigate multiple software systems and technologies simultaneously.
