Patient Access Representative – Rush Region

About the role

The Patient Access Representative greets patients and guests, both by phone and in person, and manages the scheduling, registration, and admission process. This position ensures accurate patient data collection, insurance verification, and point‑of‑service collections while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.

Key responsibilities

• Create, activate, and complete patient scheduling, clinic registration, or hospital admission, ensuring all required forms and documentation are accurate.
• Gather and input patient and guarantor demographic and financial information, explain insurance benefits, and collect co‑pays, deductibles, and self‑pay amounts.
• Perform electronic, telephone, or web‑based insurance verification and conduct financial analysis for each case.
• Balance cash drawer daily, prepare deposit slips, and close cash processes at shift end.
• Provide courteous customer service to patients, guests, and family members, adapting communication style to diverse patient populations.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent; Associate’s degree preferred.
• Minimum of 1 year experience in a hospital, clinic, medical office, revenue‑cycle, or comparable customer‑service environment.
• Strong interpersonal, organizational, and conflict‑resolution skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with other departments and handle high‑stress situations professionally.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Windows‑style applications and data‑entry software.
• Computer dexterity for retrieving and entering patient information.
• Knowledge of healthcare insurance benefits, payer guidelines, and billing regulations.
• Effective verbal and written communication for presenting information clearly.
