Patient Access Representative (PRN)

About the role

The Patient Access Representative greets patients and guests, handles appointment scheduling, check‑in, and admission processes, and ensures accurate collection of demographic and insurance information while maintaining confidentiality.

Key responsibilities

• Provide courteous customer service to patients, guests, and families both in person and via telephone.
• Create, activate, and complete patient scheduling, clinic registration, or hospital admission processes, ensuring all required forms are completed.
• Gather and input patient/guarantor demographic and financial data, explain insurance benefits, and collect co‑pays, deductibles, and self‑pay amounts.
• Perform point‑of‑service collections, balance cash drawer daily, and prepare deposit slips.
• Verify insurance eligibility through electronic, telephone, or web applications.
• Maintain knowledge of federal, state, and local billing regulations and payer guidelines.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent; Associate’s degree preferred.
• Minimum 1 year experience in a hospital, clinic, medical office, revenue cycle, or customer‑service environment.
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with other departments and handle high‑stress situations professionally.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Windows‑style applications and data‑entry software.
• Knowledge of healthcare insurance benefits, referral and authorization processes, and billing regulations.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
