Paramedic – Emergency Medical Services

About the role

The Paramedic provides immediate medical care to victims of accidents, violence, and sudden illnesses, delivering pre‑hospital and intra‑hospital advanced life support from initial contact until care is transferred to a medical facility.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as a member of a two‑person ambulance crew responding to emergency and non‑emergency calls.
• Operate advanced life support equipment such as bag‑valve‑mask resuscitators, external defibrillators, and electrocardiograms.
• Assess injuries or illnesses, prioritize medical procedures, and provide stabilization, immobilization, and transport.
• Document assessments and treatments using patient care charting software.
• Administer medications via injection, IV, or oral routes under physician direction.
• Communicate with medical personnel at receiving facilities for treatment instructions.
• Represent the ambulance service at public events and provide standby services as needed.
• Clean, decontaminate, and report infectious disease incidents after transports.

Required profile

• High School Diploma/GED and at least 2 years of Pre‑Hospital EMT‑B and/or AEMT experience.
• Ability to assess acute and chronic patient needs and document information accurately.
• Knowledge of infection control procedures and safety precautions.
• Physical ability to lift over 50 lb, push/pull up to 140 lb, and carry 80 lb short distances.

Required skills

• ACLS – Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (American Heart Association).
• PALS – Pediatric Advanced Life Support (American Heart Association).
• State of Pennsylvania EMT‑Paramedic license (National Registry).
• Driver’s License – Pennsylvania.
• EMSVO – Emergency Medical Service Vehicle Operator certification.
• PHTLS – Prehospital Trauma Life Support.
• NIMS 100, 200, 700 (preferred).
