Operating Room Technician

About the role

The Operating Room Technician joins the surgical team at Lehigh Valley Health Network, supporting surgeons by maintaining a sterile field and handling instruments, supplies, and equipment throughout procedures. This position ensures patient safety and efficient workflow in a high‑volume hospital environment.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare the operating room by gathering sterile supplies, instruments, and equipment in collaboration with the circulator.
• Maintain the sterile field using aseptic techniques and perform surgical counts according to facility policy.
• Assist the surgeon by anticipating needs, passing instruments, and ensuring equipment functions properly.
• Perform in‑between case cleaning and turnover of the OR suite.

Required profile

• High School Diploma/GED or Technical School Diploma in Surgical Technology.
• Less than 1 year of experience; ability to adapt to constant change in a healthcare setting.
• Effective communication, customer service, time management, and organizational skills.
• Physical ability to lift and carry 40‑50 lb and stand/walk for long periods.

Required skills

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification – State of Pennsylvania.
• Certification as a Surgical Technologist (CST) or eligibility for NBSTSA within 1.5 years.
• Knowledge of medical and surgical supplies and sterile techniques.
