Operating Room Technician

About the role

The Operating Room Technician joins the surgical team at Lehigh Valley Health Network, supporting surgeons by maintaining a sterile environment and handling instruments during procedures. This role ensures patient safety and efficient workflow in the operating suite.

Key responsibilities

• Scrub and assist the surgeon, anticipating needs and managing instruments, supplies, and equipment.
• Perform surgical counts, organize case carts, and prepare the sterile field using aseptic techniques.
• Collaborate with the circulating nurse to set up the operating room and ensure equipment functionality.
• Conduct in‑between case cleaning and turnover of the operating suite.

Required profile

• High School Diploma/GED or Technical School Diploma in surgical technology.
• Less than 1 year of experience; ability to adapt to a fast‑changing healthcare environment.
• Effective communication and customer service skills.
• Physical ability to lift and carry 40‑50 lb and stand for long periods.

Required skills

• American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification (Pennsylvania).
• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) and NBSTSA certification (Pennsylvania) within 1.5 years.
• Knowledge of medical and surgical supplies and sterile techniques.
