Paralegal - RECA Call Center

About the role

CACI is hiring a full-time Paralegal in Washington to support the Department of Justice's Radiation Exposure Compensation Program (RECA) legal team. The role is based in the RECA Call Center, where you answer questions from applicants calling the RECA 1-800 line and interpret regulations under the RECA statute. The position is covered by the Service Contract Act, requires up to 10% travel across the continental US, and needs DOJ MBI clearance.

Key responsibilities

• Answer questions from RECA applicants and explain the regulations governing the program
• Compile, prepare and summarise materials for use by attorneys
• Maintain case files and index, track and control case-related materials, including claimant files
• Perform simple legal and factual research
• Review documents for legal sufficiency against established guidelines

Required profile

• A paralegal certificate, a JD, or current attendance at an ABA-accredited law school (at least one year of study); one year of legal training or experience, or two years of college, may substitute for the certificate
• At least one year of litigation paralegal or project experience related to the task order
• Basic legal knowledge, including standard legal citation, and experience with LEXIS and Westlaw for basic research
• Excellent written and oral communication, attention to detail, and ability to deliver high-quality work under pressure
• US citizenship required; DOJ MBI must be obtainable

Required skills

• Word processing, databases (document review and file management systems), spreadsheets, imaging and hardware systems
• Familiarity with ESI tools and eDiscovery procedures
• Desired: automated legal support experience and extensive MS Excel and Word skills
