Nurse Practitioner / Physician Assistant – Stroke Nocturnist

About the role

Ochsner Health is seeking a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join the Stroke Nocturnist team in Lafayette. The role works in a collaborative model with residents, fellows, attendings and staff, providing primary and urgent medical management, emergency stabilization, and education to patients and trainees during night hours.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver patient care in the outpatient clinic and inpatient settings, following approved medical practice processes.
• Provide emergency stabilization for critically ill patients and manage urgent medical issues.
• Teach and mentor residents, fellows, medical students, and staff.
• Participate in patient education, discharge planning, and staff development.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Nursing (for NP) or Bachelor’s/Master’s in Physician Assistant studies (for PA).
• Current APRN license (Family or Adult/Geriatric) or PA license with NCCPA certification.
• Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
• Eligibility for prescriptive authority in Louisiana.
• Reliable transportation and ability to travel between facilities.
• Flexibility to work a 24/7 schedule, including weekends, holidays and on‑call availability.

Required skills

• Computer proficiency for data entry and retrieval, including Windows‑style applications.
• Effective verbal and written communication.
• Strong interpersonal skills for collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.
