Non-Certified Pharmacy Technician

About the role

Hy-Vee is hiring a non-certified pharmacy technician in its pharmacy department in Gladstone. The role is hourly and pays attention to night and weekend shifts. Non-certified technicians gain hands-on experience supporting pharmacists in the preparation and distribution of prescription medications while working toward national certification. The position reports to the store director, store manager, assistant managers, pharmacy department manager and staff pharmacists.

Key responsibilities

• Provide friendly customer service, greet customers and handle inquiries that do not require a pharmacist's judgment
• Accept written prescription orders and telephoned refill requests, contact doctors' offices for refills, and gather patient information
• Assist pharmacists in preparing prescription products for dispensing, and prepare and affix labels to prescription containers
• Prepare and submit insurance claims and help with third-party insurance billing and troubleshooting
• File dispensed prescriptions, report medication errors, and order, receive and stock pharmacy supplies
• Process cash transactions accurately and administer vaccines where legally allowed and certified
• Maintain the cleanliness of the pharmacy, keep patient information confidential under HIPAA, and follow pharmacy statutes and regulations
• Help in other store areas as needed and take on special projects

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Working toward licensed technician certification through a certified national program
• Vaccination certification required if administering vaccines
• Previous experience as a pharmacy clerk preferred
• Ability to stand and walk frequently, including at a counter or workstation, and to handle repetitive standing, walking, reaching and bending
• Exposure to bloodborne pathogens and sharps, and to hazardous drugs such as chemotherapy, with training provided

Employment is contingent on passing a pre-employment drug screen. Night and weekend shifts are required.
