About the role

The Non-Certified Ophthalmic Assistant II supports ophthalmologists by performing clinical and administrative tasks, ensuring patients feel comfortable throughout their appointments at Cleveland Clinic's Main Campus.

Key responsibilities

  • Receive and prepare patients for examination or treatment.
  • Perform clinical and technical ophthalmic duties for high‑acuity patients, including in‑patient and critical care cases.
  • Conduct routine screening tests as needed.
  • Document patient information in the medical record.
  • Maintain exam rooms, equipment, and supplies, including stocking and equipment upkeep.

Required profile

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • One year of experience in an ophthalmic setting providing direct patient care, or formal education/training in ophthalmology.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 25 lb, stand or walk for extended periods, and have normal visual acuity.

Required skills

  • Medical terminology.
  • Operation of ophthalmic clinical equipment.
  • Basic PC and office equipment use.
