Newborn Hearing Screener – Part‑Time

About the role

The Newborn Hearing Screener provides essential hearing assessments for newborns and infants before discharge from Fairview Hospital. This part‑time position works mornings, averaging 20 hours per week, and plays a critical role in early detection of hearing loss.

Key responsibilities

• Perform pre‑testing procedures, including safe transport of newborns and proper placement of sensor tabs and transducers under supervision.
• Ensure equipment functions correctly, troubleshoot issues, and report problems as needed.
• Calm and comfort babies during testing while monitoring and controlling ambient noise levels.
• Conduct hearing screenings using Otoacoustic Emissions (OAEs) and/or Automated Auditory Brainstem Response (AABR) in compliance with Ohio Department of Health regulations.
• Communicate results confidentially to families and provide written documentation to caregivers and primary care providers within required timelines.
• Document quality‑assurance activities and follow all baby‑care policies and procedures.

Required profile

• High School Diploma/GED with at least one year of hospital or infant‑care experience, OR an Associate’s/Bachelor’s degree in an allied health field.
• Ability to stand, walk, and lift items up to 25 lb; normal or corrected hearing and vision.
• Commitment to infection‑control practices and use of personal protective equipment.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Otoacoustic Emissions (OAEs) screening equipment.
• Proficiency with Automated Auditory Brainstem Response (AABR) screening equipment.
• Basic equipment troubleshooting and maintenance.
