Monitor Technician

About the role

The Monitor Technician works in the Central Monitoring Unit (CMU) of Martin Health North, providing continuous surveillance of patients' cardiac monitors and vital signs. The role supports nursing staff by promptly notifying them of any significant changes in cardiac rhythm or hemodynamics, helping to ensure patient safety and optimal care.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor patients' cardiac rhythms, vital signs, and hemodynamic data on electronic displays.
• Notify nursing staff immediately when abnormal cardiac rhythms or hemodynamic changes are detected.
• Document cardiac and hemodynamic findings in the electronic medical record.
• Answer telephone calls and communicate information clearly to caregivers and staff.
• Orient and mentor new caregivers, serving as a training and troubleshooting resource for the CMU and nursing units.
• Prepare and deliver shift hand‑over reports.

Required profile

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Formal training or one year of patient‑care experience in a hospital, nursing home, or similar healthcare setting.
• Working knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy/physiology, and basic computer skills.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Required skills

• EKG/Cardiac Monitoring proficiency.
• Ability to interpret cardiac rhythms and hemodynamic data.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Familiarity with medical terminology and electronic medical record systems.
