Middle School Teacher (Grades 6-8) – Residential School

About the role

The Teacher will deliver comprehensive educational services to middle‑school residents (grades 6‑8) at a secure, residential behavioral health facility. The position involves planning, instruction, assessment, and documentation in alignment with state, federal, and accreditation standards.

Key responsibilities

• Provide daily classroom instruction and individualized support for students with emotional, psychiatric, and educational challenges.
• Develop, write, and implement IEPs/IIPs, transition plans, and curriculum aligned with Virginia Standards of Learning.
• Assess student progress, collect data, and maintain accurate records.
• Manage classroom behavior using the facility’s Level System and maintain a safe learning environment.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary staff for program development and resident supervision.

Required profile

• Knowledge of subject‑matter standards, learning theories, and special‑education law.
• Ability to design rigorous, engaging lessons for multi‑grade classrooms.
• Strong classroom management skills and capacity to build positive relationships with students and staff.
• Experience with documentation, IEP writing, and transition planning.

• Familiarity with cognitive, behavioral, and social learning theories.
