Mental Health Clinician – Self Harm Prevention (Correctional Care)

About the role
This position is an integral member of an interdisciplinary team providing mental health services to inmates at elevated risk of self‑harm within Texas correctional facilities. The clinician monitors well‑being, documents clinical encounters, and coordinates care across security, medical, and classification departments.
Key responsibilities
- Monitor at‑risk inmates identified by the Self‑Harm Prevention Office and communicate needs to mental health and medical staff.
- Serve as liaison with security, classification, and medical departments.
- Track patient follow‑up, clinical outcomes, and document encounters in the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
- Conduct rounds in transient and pre‑hearing detention areas.
- Participate in Unit Classification Committee meetings and attend departmental trainings.
- Provide crisis intervention and assess psychiatric emergencies.
- Deliver annual Suicide Prevention Training to medical and security staff.
- Maintain compliance with policies, internal controls, and reporting structures.
Required profile
- Master’s degree in counseling, psychology, or social work.
- Licensure or eligibility for licensure as a Professional Counselor, Psychological Associate, or Clinical Social Worker.
- Minimum two years of experience working with behavioral health patients, including screening and assessment for mental illness.
- Ability to work independently and communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Security clearance and pre‑employment drug testing required.
