MedSurg Telemetry Technician

About the role

A MedSurg Telemetry Technician provides advanced EKG monitoring under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse, interpreting cardiac rhythms and interval measurements to support the best treatment plan for patients. The position is full-time with a 7pm-7am shift available.

Key responsibilities

• Operate the central monitoring station and monitoring software to oversee cardiac monitoring of patients
• Prepare, maintain and interpret telemetry waveform data, and document EKG waveforms in patient records (heart rates, PR intervals, QRs on rhythm strips)
• Perform electrocardiograms with proper electrode placement and observe and interpret cardiac rhythms
• Respond to monitor alarms, report changes in rate and rhythm to the nurse or physician, and document changes
• Answer phones and patient call lights, route calls and messages, and coordinate equipment availability
• Maintain, clean and operate telemetry and ECG equipment, keeping monitor alarms on when a patient is on a unit
• Notify the nurse of STAT orders and transcribe them within 15 minutes
• Assist admissions with rapid registration of urgent/emergent patients, process admissions to Med Surg, enter orders in Meditech and place discharge charts in the medical record basket by the end of each shift
• Prepare documents for patient transfers, request and retrieve medical records, and organize and clean work areas and supplies

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred but not required
• Successful completion of a Telemetry training program or an Associate's degree in a related field
• Previous telemetry experience preferred but not required
• Ability to read and communicate effectively in English, verbally and in writing; additional languages preferred
