MedSurg RN (Nights)

About the role

Appling Healthcare is hiring a Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse for night shifts (7 p.m. to 7 a.m.) in Baxley. MedSurg RNs assess patient needs and implement and monitor patient medical plans and treatments. The position is full-time.

Key responsibilities

• Create and review care plans within 12 hours of admission, updating them as patient conditions change
• Assess patients at the start of each shift and every 2 hours, document findings and notify the provider of changes
• Perform patient rounds every 2 hours and participate in nurse rounding before shift change
• Give medications, including IV piggyback and IV push, and administer them according to policy
• Start IVs, insert Foley catheters, nasogastric and rectal tubes, and apply/discontinue telemetry monitors per physician order
• Collect lab specimens, record results and notify the physician
• Provide wound care, activities of daily living care and meals, and give discharge information to patients and families
• Process stat orders within 15 minutes and routine orders within 2 hours; co-sign orders within 2 hours
• Complete admission assessments, unit safety checks, 24-hour chart checks, patient documentation and charge entry each shift
• Act as preceptor for nursing students and orient new hires, take call rotations and keep the workstation clean

Required profile

• Current RN license in the State of Georgia
• Previous registered nurse experience preferred but not required
• Ability to read and communicate effectively in English; additional languages preferred

Required skills

• BLS certification (within 90 days of hire)
• CPI certification (within 90 days of hire)
• ACLS certification (within 6 months of hire)
• PALS certification (within 6 months of hire)
