Medical Assistant, Neurology

About the role

Atrius Health, a multi-specialty group practice with 28 locations in eastern Massachusetts, is hiring a Medical Assistant for its Neurology department. The role supports clinicians in the exam room by helping with routine procedures and tests, advising patients on preparation, and providing direct clinical support to one or more assigned clinicians.

Key responsibilities

• Provide efficient patient flow and greet and escort patients to exam rooms
• Measure vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse, weight and height, and prepare patients for examination
• Advise patients on pre-visit testing required for department-specific exams
• Update the electronic medical record (EMR) with accurate patient data, including medications, allergies and chief complaints
• Keep patients informed about visit status and delays
• Reconcile medications, set up pending refills and discontinue inactive prescriptions
• Order and perform waived point-of-care tests such as strep, urine, hCG and glucose
• Help resolve minor patient concerns and complaints

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent, or a Medical Assistant certification
• Preferred: associate degree in medical assisting or completion of a medical assistant certification program
• Preferred: current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS); ability to obtain it within 30 days of hire is acceptable
• Preferred: at least one year of prior clinical or customer service experience, which may be replaced by a bachelor's or associate degree

Required skills

• Computer experience
• Ability to use word processing and spreadsheet programs
• Preferred: EMR experience or aptitude to learn it, knowledge of reagent stability and storage, and understanding of testing procedures
