Medical Assistant 2 – Behavioral & Mental Health

About the role

The Medical Assistant 2 provides direct and indirect patient care within the Zalik Clinic’s Behavioral and Mental Health department. Working under the supervision of physicians, advanced practice nurses, or physician assistants, you will help ensure safe, high‑quality care for children and adolescents at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.

Key responsibilities

• Assist licensed practitioners with patient intake, including accurate vital signs and age‑appropriate assessments.
• Perform phlebotomy, simple medication or vaccine administration, spirometry testing, and radiograph acquisition under physician direction.
• Maintain infection‑control standards, safety protocols, and OSHA regulations throughout the clinic.
• Communicate effectively with patients, families, and staff, providing updates on delays and answering inquiries.
• Support administrative functions such as opening/closing procedures, phone coverage, and waiting‑room management.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent plus successful completion of an accredited medical assistant training program.
• Certification such as CMA, RMA, CCMA, NCMA, or equivalent; Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 30 days of hire.
• Ability to pass a Basic Windows Skill Assessment (80%+) within 30 days and complete initial departmental competencies within three months.
• Preferred: 1 year of pediatric experience, including vital sign collection, phlebotomy, and specimen handling.
