Mechanical Designer – Robotics and Automation

About the role

Carnegie Robotics is seeking a Mechanical Designer to join its interdisciplinary team developing reliable robotic and automation systems for commercial products and R&D applications.

Key responsibilities

• Model parts and assemblies in SolidWorks for concept and detailed design.
• Create GD&T manufacturing drawings and collaborate with suppliers to improve manufacturability.
• Prototype using in‑house waterjet, laser cutter, mill, lathe, sheet‑metal tools, welding equipment, and 3D printer farm.
• Maintain engineering bills of materials and support transition from prototype to production builds.
• Prepare and present product reports for management, suppliers, and customers.

Required profile

• Associate degree in drafting, mechanical design, or a related field.
• Product design experience integrating mechanisms and electronics.
• Strong personal accountability, initiative, and ability to work independently.
• Authorization to work for any US employer (no visa sponsorship).

Required skills

• SolidWorks CAD proficiency.
• Knowledge of GD&T drawing standards.
• Bill of Materials (BOM) management.
• Experience with prototyping tools such as waterjet, laser cutter, mill, lathe, sheet‑metal fabrication, welding, and 3D printing.
