Meat Clerk

About the role

Hy-Vee is hiring a Meat Clerk in its meat department in Dubuque. The role provides prompt, efficient and friendly customer service, wraps and trims products, stocks cases and receives merchandise. It reports to the meat department manager and to the district store director, store manager and assistant managers.

Key responsibilities

• Provide friendly customer service, greet customers by name when possible, escort them to products, load or unload heavy items and answer the telephone to take orders
• Wrap, weigh and label product, and finish trims on steaks, roasts and chops, including seafood for traying
• Prepare and organize seafood for display, and prepare and organize other products for display
• Stock cases, rotate product and check food for freshness
• Replenish and organize coolers, report out-of-stock items and remove trash
• Follow sanitation procedures, maintain a clean work area and adhere to hygiene and dress guidelines
• Secondary duties: prepare some department signs, order replenishment merchandise as directed by management, assist in other store areas and complete special projects

Required profile

• Age 18 or older
• High school or equivalent education and food safety training
• Six months or less of similar or related work
• Ability to follow written or verbal instructions, do simple addition and subtraction, count and record figures
• Physical ability to lift up to 85 pounds occasionally, 40 pounds frequently and 10 pounds constantly, plus climbing, stooping, kneeling, reaching and repetitive motions
• Visual acuity from less than 20 inches to more than 20 feet with or without correction, depth perception and color vision

Working conditions include a cool, damp environment, frequent noise from saws, exposure to cleaning solvents and the possibility of electrical shock. Employment is contingent on a pre-employment drug screen.
