Delicatessen Clerk

About the role

Hy-Vee is hiring a Delicatessen Clerk in its Delicatessen department. The clerk handles food safely, keeps the work area clean and neat, runs the department registers and receives payments, and provides courteous, friendly and efficient customer service. Overnight shifts are available and candidates must be 18 years or older.

Key responsibilities

• Provide prompt, friendly customer service, greet customers by name when possible, and help them find products, load or unload heavy items and take orders over the phone and at the counter.
• Review daily orders, check the freshness of food, maintain an adequate food supply and follow a production list.
• Prepare, finish and replenish products, check in product, put it away and review invoices.
• Run the department registers, make change, remove trash and follow hygiene and dress guidelines.
• Secondary duties include washing dishes, ordering product and supplies, delivering orders, pricing products and assisting in other store areas.

Required profile

• Less than high school education or equivalent, and six months or less of similar or related work experience.
• Able to follow verbal or demonstrated instructions, write identifying information and solve arithmetic involving fractions, decimals and percentages.
• Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally, 20 pounds frequently and 10 pounds constantly, with clear vision, color vision and depth perception.
• Ability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, stand, walk, push, pull, lift, grasp and perform repetitive motions.
• Exposure to dust, noise, equipment movement, temperature extremes and cleaning chemicals; fast-paced environment.
