Market Grille Assistant Department Manager

About the role

The Market Grille Assistant Department Manager works closely with the Department Manager to keep the store's Market Grille running well, delivering fresh, high-quality food to customers while leading the team and managing daily operations. The role is hands-on and fast-paced, in a store kitchen environment, and reports to the Department Manager.

Key responsibilities

• Provide prompt, friendly customer service and greet customers by name
• Check daily orders, set up production timelines and assign tasks to staff
• Inspect the area for cleanliness, safety and repair issues, and rotate and replenish food displays
• Monitor schedules, track hours for 14 and 15 year olds and manage department overtime
• Control inventory, rotate perishables with every delivery and keep the supply area clean
• Handle catering contracts and assist with portion calculations
• Follow food safety guidelines and resolve customer issues professionally
• Suggest ad items and specials, order signage, and assist with monthly inventory and product ordering
• Take over management duties when the Department Manager is absent and work with other store areas as needed

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent; one year of similar or related experience required
• Sanitation and food safety coursework encouraged
• Able to lead a team, solve practical problems and communicate with customers, coworkers and store leadership
• Ability to safely use sharp knives and blades, and to operate a delivery vehicle under DOT standards
• Exposure to heat and burn hazards and cleaning chemicals is part of the work

Required skills

• Math skills including fractions, decimals and percentages for scheduling, inventory and pricing
• Ability to file, post and organize materials and to interview for basic information

Starting hourly wage is $18.00 to $22.50 depending on experience. Employment is contingent on passing a pre-employment drug screen.
