Hy-Chi Department Clerk

About the role

Hy-Vee is hiring a Hy-Chi Department Clerk in its Hy-Chi department. The clerk takes customer orders at the counter, prepares and replenishes products, keeps the department running smoothly and delivers friendly service. The role is fast-paced and requires attention to quality and cleanliness.

Key responsibilities

• Greet customers, take orders at the Hy-Chi counter and assist them throughout the store
• Review daily orders and make sure enough food is ready and on hand
• Prepare, finish and replenish product, pulling items from the cooler or freezer
• Check food for freshness and maintain quality standards
• Receive product, put it away and review invoices as needed
• Run the department register, receive payment and make change
• Follow sanitation procedures, keep the work area clean and remove trash and wash dishes as needed
• Order product and supplies, price product for customers and answer the phone promptly
• Pitch in with other tasks and special projects

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Up to six months of similar or related experience; training is provided
• Commitment to Hy-Vee's mission and a genuine interest in helping customers
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions carefully
• Ability to safely use sharp knives and blades, and to handle heat and burn hazards from cooking equipment
• Ability to operate a delivery vehicle according to DOT standards where applicable

Required skills

• Basic math: simple addition, subtraction, counting and recording
• Clear communication with customers and co-workers
• Proper sanitation, food safety and department procedures

The anticipated starting hourly wage is $13.50 to $16.80 depending on experience. Employment is contingent on passing a pre-employment drug screen.
