About the role

Marine Interdiction Agents (MIA) join the Air and Marine Operations (AMO) of U.S. Customs and Border Protection to enforce federal law on the nation’s waterways. Agents protect the United States’ borders, support lawful international travel and trade, and work with a highly trained team of law‑enforcement professionals.

Key responsibilities

  • Conduct maritime interdiction operations to detect, deter, and apprehend illegal activities on U.S. waters.
  • Maintain the security of national borders while facilitating legitimate commerce and travel.
  • Collaborate with other federal, state, and local agencies during joint operations.
  • Complete the Federal Law Enforcement Training Academy (FLETC) program and ongoing specialized training.

Required profile

  • Possession of valid Merchant Mariner Credentials.
  • U.S. citizenship and eligibility for federal employment.
  • Willingness to sign a one‑year service agreement after FLETC graduation.
  • Ability to work full‑time in an on‑site, field‑based environment.
