Manufacturing Intern - Summer 2027

About the role

ABB is hiring a Manufacturing Intern for Summer 2027, reporting to the Engineering Manager. The internship offers practical experience through hands-on projects, with the work done onsite in Albuquerque, New Mexico. No relocation assistance or stipend is offered, and candidates must live within a 50-mile radius of the office and arrange their own commute.

Key responsibilities

• Support engineering teams with hands-on project work focused on improving manufacturing processes, equipment and production efficiency.
• Design and develop assembly fixtures, tooling and rubber molding devices for manufacturing applications (for Mechanical, Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering students).
• Assist with the design and development of electrical test equipment for production high-voltage testing (for Electrical Engineering students).
• Work with cross-functional teams to identify process improvements, troubleshoot technical challenges and implement solutions.
• Document designs, test results and project outcomes and present findings to engineering and operations teams.

Required profile

• Currently enrolled in a bachelor's or master's program in Manufacturing, Electrical, Mechanical, Industrial, Process, Chemical Engineering or a related discipline at an accredited U.S. institution.
• Reliable transportation to and from the worksite.
• Legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship now and in the future.
• Ability to analyze complex situations, organize and prioritize tasks, manage several tasks at once and collaborate with team members.

Required skills

• Manufacturing and mechanical background.
• Experience with Creo, SolidWorks or other parametric 3D solid modeling software preferred.
• Experience with robotics systems, with ABB robotics experience strongly preferred.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics preferred.
