Managing Director of Development

About the role

The Managing Director of Development leads the Fulbright College advancement team, driving frontline fundraising performance and managing a team of development officers. Reporting to the senior director of development, this senior role translates institutional priorities into measurable fundraising outcomes.

Key responsibilities

• Lead execution of fundraising strategy aligned with college and university priorities.
• Manage and develop a high‑performing team of development officers.
• Maintain a strategic personal portfolio of major‑gift prospects.
• Cultivate a collaborative, impact‑driven fundraising environment.
• Measure success through team performance, portfolio productivity, and progress toward annual and campaign goals.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree and at least five years of development experience in higher education, with proven major‑gift success.
• Three+ years of experience leading frontline fundraising staff or complex initiatives.
• Experience securing five‑ and six‑figure philanthropic commitments.
• Demonstrated ability to manage volunteers, advisory boards, and major‑giving campaigns.
• Effective written, oral, and organizational communication skills.
