Maintenance Mechanic

About the role

The Maintenance Mechanic will work at the 3M Lexington plant, performing troubleshooting and repair on a variety of specialty production equipment. This full‑time position offers a collaborative environment with innovative 3Mers worldwide.

Key responsibilities

• Perform emergency and scheduled repairs on production and facilities equipment to minimize downtime.
• Conduct preventive maintenance on simple to complex machines, including high‑temperature furnaces, ovens, high‑vacuum equipment, sputter coating machines, class 4 lasers, welders, CNC lathes and mills.
• Read and interpret mechanical drawings, hydraulic diagrams, pneumatic circuits and work orders.
• Use hand and power tools, electric meters, welders, torches, forklifts and material‑handling equipment.
• Maintain a clean and safe work area and report unsafe conditions.

Required profile

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Minimum five years of industrial maintenance experience.
• Working knowledge of complex high‑vacuum systems.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Must be at least 18 years old and legally authorized to work in the US without sponsorship.

Required skills

• Mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic troubleshooting.
• Reading and interpreting electrical and mechanical schematics.
• Operation of CNC lathes, mills, drill presses and other fabrication equipment.
• Forklift operation.
• Use of SAP Plant Maintenance module for task management and parts procurement.
