Logistics Specialist - Palmer Station

About the role

The Logistics Specialist reports to the Logistics Specialist Lead and provides professional customer service to internal and external clients. The role ensures accurate data entry, physical receiving, transferring, issuing and inventory management of ASC and NSF material, processes about 12,000 lbs of retrograde cargo and delivers about 40,000 lbs of southbound cargo per cruise. It involves long-shore cargo handling, including 20' containers and break-bulk cargo, and balancing work tasking with community and volunteer tasking.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee packaging, crating and documentation of northbound cargo, keeping it labelled, stored and packed properly, and maintain the preliminary north-bound manifest
• Maintain the Maximo Inventory and Shipping modules and shipper documentation, and research stock levels in the ERP database
• Receive, store and issue materials, complete electronic purchase requisitions, and produce standard and custom reports in Maximo
• Handle long-shore cargo, including hazardous cargo up to 20,000 lbs, and operate heavy equipment to load and unload containers
• Take part in emergency response training, community programs and work after normal hours or on station days off
• Maintain the Palmer Station SDS library, keep the warehouse and outside storage area tidy, and handle cargo queries and MAXIMO issues

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED
• At least two years of experience in inventory, purchasing, warehousing, cargo, transportation or supply chain logistics, or one season in the Antarctic T&L department
• Willingness and ability to deploy to Antarctica for extended periods, with medical, dental, drug screening and background checks completed
• Valid US driver's license; US citizenship required for facility credentials
• Able to lift heavy loads, climb ladders and work outdoors in extreme cold
