Linear Precision Grinder - Day Shift

About the role

PI Physik Instrumente, LP is hiring a Linear Precision Grinder for its advanced manufacturing assembly department in Shrewsbury, MA. The role is full-time, Monday to Friday, 7am to 3:30pm, and involves high-precision surface grinding to support prototype and low-volume production of critical components. Candidates should have experience in precision surface grinding with very stringent dimensional and flatness tolerances. A $3,000 sign-on bonus is offered.

Key responsibilities

• Grind components used in the air bearing product line.
• Run precision flat grinding operations on surface grinders (Okamoto).
• Convert single-piece prototypes into low-volume production parts while strictly adhering to dimensional and flatness tolerances.
• Perform in-process and final inspections to confirm specifications and print tolerances are met.
• Interpret engineering drawings and process parts independently with minimal supervision.
• Keep pace with production schedules, cost objectives and quality standards.
• Apply 5S and lean manufacturing principles in line with ISO 9001.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED.
• Experience with machining and grinding concepts, techniques and strategies.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and work instructions accurately.
• Self-sufficient work with minimal supervision.
• Able to lift and carry up to 35 lbs and stand for long periods during shifts.

Required skills

• Grinding fundamentals gained through experience and training.
• Preferred: strong working knowledge of advanced manufacturing concepts, proficiency in numerical ability, and experience operating surface and cylindrical grinders.
