ID/OD Precision Grinder - Day Shift

About the role

PI (Physik Instrumente), LP, a manufacturer of high-precision positioning systems, is hiring an ID/OD Precision Grinder for its Shrewsbury, MA location. The role is full-time, Monday to Friday, 7am to 3:30pm, in the advanced manufacturing grinding department. It supports prototype and low-volume production of critical components, including cylindrical grinding parts for the air bearing product line, with very stringent dimensional and roundness tolerances.

Key responsibilities

• Operate precision ID/OD grinding on Studer Grinders
• Convert single-piece prototypes into low-volume production parts while meeting strict tolerances
• Perform in-process and final inspections to confirm specifications and print tolerances
• Interpret engineering drawings and run parts independently with minimal supervision
• Keep pace with production schedules, cost objectives and quality standards
• Apply 5S and lean manufacturing principles in line with ISO 9001

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED
• Experience with machining and grinding concepts, techniques and strategies
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and work instructions
• Self-sufficient work with minimal supervision
• Able to lift and carry up to 35 lbs and stand for long periods

Required skills

• Grinding fundamentals (experience and training)
• Preferred: experience operating surface and cylindrical grinders
• Preferred: ability to develop machining/grinding processes and strong numerical ability
