Lifeguard II – Part‑Time

About the role

The Lifeguard II works under the Aquatics Director to ensure the safety of all pool patrons at the Roxbury YMCA. This part‑time, non‑exempt position requires active lifeguard certifications and a commitment to maintaining a clean, secure aquatic environment.

Key responsibilities

• Continuously scan the pool, recognize and respond to emergencies, and activate the Emergency Action Plan when needed.
• Perform rescues, provide CPR, First Aid, and emergency oxygen, and complete incident reports promptly.
• Enforce pool rules, keep the pool area clean, test water quality, and secure doors when off‑duty.
• Participate in safety drills, attend required trainings, and communicate consistently with supervisors.

Required profile

• At least 18 years of age with the ability to lift up to 50 lb and stand or sit for extended periods.
• Physically and verbally able to interact with members and staff in a moderate‑to‑high noise environment.
• Availability for early mornings, nights, weekends and willingness to find own coverage for schedule changes.

Required skills

• Active YMCA or Red Cross Lifeguard certification.
• CPR, First Aid, and Emergency Oxygen (O₂) certification.
• Child Abuse Prevention training (within first four weeks).
• Respect in the Workplace (Sexual Harassment Prevention) training.
• Professional Lifeguard and Disappearing Dummies training.
