Lieutenant – Department of Public Safety

About the role
The Lieutenant provides senior leadership for campus patrol operations, supervising field supervisors, patrol officers, and booth officers. Reporting to the Captain of Public Safety, the role ensures safe campus environments through operational oversight, emergency response, and policy implementation.
Key responsibilities
- Lead daily supervision of all field supervisors, patrol officers, and booth officers.
- Act as Administrator on Duty and Watch Commander during campus incidents.
- Review patrol reports for accuracy, provide feedback, and refer investigative cases.
- Assist in developing and updating patrol policies and procedures.
- Collaborate with university departments on crime‑prevention initiatives.
- Coordinate with external law‑enforcement agencies during critical incidents.
- Plan, schedule, and deliver training for patrol personnel.
- Participate in recruitment, onboarding, and performance coaching.
Required profile
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum five years of supervisory experience in law enforcement or public safety.
- Ability to obtain CPR and basic first‑aid certification within 90 days of hire.
