Legal Assistant – Immigrant Justice Program

About the role

The Asian Law Caucus seeks a full‑time Legal Assistant to support attorneys in the Immigrant Justice Program. The role provides essential administrative, case‑management, and litigation support for low‑income immigrants and asylum seekers.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct intake interviews, gather evidence, draft declarations, and prepare application forms for attorney review.
• Draft, cite‑check, edit, and proofread legal documents, pleadings, and contracts using templates.
• File and serve submissions with USCIS, immigration courts, the Board of Immigration Appeals, and federal courts.
• Maintain electronic and physical case files, manage client data, and support legal clinics and community presentations.
• Coordinate interpretation/translation services and assist clients post‑detention with referrals and documentation.

Required profile

• Two or more years of legal assistant experience, preferably with low‑income immigrant or incarcerated populations.
• Bachelor’s degree or advanced degree with at least one year of law‑related experience.
• Strong written and oral communication, high attention to detail, and ability to work independently and collaboratively.
• Commitment to social justice and public‑interest work.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Suite.
• Experience using Slack and Clio case‑management software.

• Salary range $68,249 – $89,049 per year, with language premiums of $1,500 for oral and written proficiency.
