Lactation Consultant – Support Breastfeeding Families

About the role

The Lactation Consultant will enhance lactation processes and address breastfeeding challenges for mothers and infants in the inpatient setting. This role focuses on promoting successful breastfeeding outcomes while adhering to professional standards.

Key responsibilities

• Orient new nursing staff to newborn feeding policies and guidelines.
• Consult with interdisciplinary teams to develop, implement, and evaluate breastfeeding protocols.
• Provide telephone counseling and in‑person support to pregnant and lactating women.
• Conduct assessments, education, and support for breastfeeding families in obstetric and pediatric areas.

Required profile

• RN with a specialized diploma and at least 3 years of lactation counseling experience.
• IBCLC certification within 180 days of hire (or already obtained).
• Basic Life Support certification (American Heart Association) upon hire.
• Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, physicians, and staff.

Required skills

• International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) credential.
• Registered Nurse (RN) license in Pennsylvania.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification (preferred within 1 year).
