Lactation Consultant

About the role

The Cleveland Clinic Children’s Breastfeeding Medicine Clinic provides comprehensive breastfeeding care and support to families. The Lactation Consultant will work in a PRN capacity, rotating day and evening shifts, to assist patients with breastfeeding concerns and provide expert guidance.

Key responsibilities

• Set up sterile tables, ensuring all supplies, drugs, and equipment are available.
• Participate with RN in counting sponges, instruments, and other items during procedures.
• Assist in draping patients and support surgical team members with gowning and gloving.
• Maintain aseptic conditions throughout procedures and actively participate in intra‑op timeouts.
• Utilize safety measures such as safety belts, positioning devices, and alarms.
• Collect, identify, label, and hand over specimens to the circulator per surgeon instructions.

Required profile

• Meets educational/licensing requirements for the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners (IBLCE).
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association.
• Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification within 6 months of hire.
• Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC) certification or equivalent upon hire, with IBCLC certification achieved within 24 months.
• Preferred: Registered Nurse (RN) with relevant experience in perinatal, obstetrics, pediatrics, or neonatal intensive care.
