Laboratory Manager I

About the role

The Laboratory Manager I provides technical and scientific leadership for laboratory operations at Akron General Medical Center. This full‑time, on‑site position oversees day‑to‑day activities, personnel, testing processes and ensures accurate, timely reporting of results.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee Core Laboratory operations, maintain workflow continuity and manage budget and fiscal performance.
• Establish and monitor quality control programs, ensure participation in HHS‑approved proficiency testing, and resolve technical or operational problems.
• Validate test procedures, maintain test performance characteristics, and ensure corrective actions before reporting patient results.
• Identify training needs, provide in‑service education, and evaluate competency of testing personnel at least semi‑annually.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in chemical, biological, clinical or medical laboratory science (or equivalent).
• Minimum 5 years of clinical laboratory experience in high‑complexity testing.
• At least 3 years of laboratory management or supervisory experience.
• Physical ability to stand for long periods, handle specimens, and use personal protective equipment.
