Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse - Onsite Misawa Japan

About the role

Arcetyp LLC, a small consulting firm serving US Federal Government, US Military and commercial clients, is recruiting a Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse for an onsite position at Misawa Japan AFB. The position is full-time and requires a US citizen who can read, write, speak and understand English fluently.

Key responsibilities

• Provide nursing care to routine and high-risk obstetrical patients and newborns in antepartum, labor and delivery, postpartum, neonatal/nursery and triage settings
• Develop nursing care plans, clinical pathways and standing orders, and make patient care assignments
• Perform sterile vaginal and speculum examinations, electronic fetal monitoring, tocometry and other diagnostic procedures
• Provide critical and emergency care, respond to emergencies and give recovery care after C-sections, cerclage, tubal ligations and pregnancy loss
• Set up, operate and troubleshoot equipment such as IV/PCA pumps, fetal and cardiac monitors, EKG units, oxygen equipment and nebulizers
• Administer medications, IV therapy, blood products and complex infusions
• Educate patients and families, participate in discharge planning and act as patient advocate
• Document care accurately and timely using MHS GENESIS and approved abbreviations
• Take part in rounds, conferences, quality improvement, peer reviews and medical readiness activities

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in nursing, or an associate degree or diploma from an NLNAC-accredited program
• At least 2 years of inpatient labor and delivery experience in the last 5 years; 1 year of postpartum and newborn nursery experience highly desired
• Current unrestricted RN license in good standing, no sanctions or suspensions, and a valid driver's license
• Certifications: ALS, BLS, NRP, Intermediate Fetal Heart Monitoring, and an EFM certification (AWHONN, GE Healthcare or NCC); web-based classes do not count
• Must obtain DHA competencies and STABLE within 30-90 duty days of arrival
• Preferred: Level 1 L&D experience, understanding of military life, active security clearance
