Interventional Radiology Technician – Per Diem

About the role

The Interventional Radiology Technician provides sterile diagnostic and therapeutic radiographic procedures, administers contrast agents, and assists physicians in a fast‑paced IR lab. The position works on a per‑diem, variable‑shift schedule at Lehigh Valley Hospital‑Pocono.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and administer contrast agents according to protocol and assist physicians during fluoroscopic procedures while maintaining sterile technique.
• Operate and troubleshoot complex imaging equipment, produce diagnostic‑quality images, and ensure proper labeling and documentation.
• Provide post‑procedure patient care, including pressure holding, cleaning, suturing, bandaging, and monitoring for complications.
• Maintain a clean, sterile environment, manage supplies, and coordinate exam timing within departmental guidelines.
• Document procedure details (fluoro time, radiation dose, blood loss, staff involved) and ensure accurate patient records within 30 minutes.

Required profile

• Technical School Diploma in Radiology with at least 2 years general diagnostic radiology experience.
• Minimum 1 year interventional radiology experience and state certification (RT, ARRT) in Pennsylvania.
• Basic Life Support certification (American Heart Association) within 90 days of hire.
• Ability to work under stress, maintain professionalism, and handle confidential patient information.

Required skills

• Operation of interventional radiology equipment and fluoroscopy systems.
• Contrast media preparation and injection under physician supervision.
• Sterile technique and scrub assistance during IR procedures.
• Image acquisition, processing, and proper labeling for radiologist interpretation.
• Troubleshooting and reporting equipment malfunctions to Clinical Engineering.
