Intensivist Nurse Practitioner – Critical Care

About the role

The NP Intensivist Medicine provides direct patient care in a critical‑care setting, performing rounds, procedures, and managing admissions and discharges. This position works on a 7‑on/14‑off schedule with no on‑call duties.

Key responsibilities

• Perform patient rounding, intubations, central venous line (CVL) placements, chest tube insertions, thoracentesis, and arterial line placements.
• Order, collect, interpret, and evaluate laboratory and diagnostic tests to guide treatment plans.
• Prescribe medications, recommend therapeutic interventions, and document comprehensive patient records.
• Provide counseling to patients and families on medical management, medication regimens, nutrition, and health promotion.
• Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary team members to develop evidence‑based treatment plans.

Required profile

• Current Texas RN licensure (or compact RN license) and APRN license to practice as a Nurse Practitioner in Texas.
• Board certification in one of the following: Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP‑BC), Adult‑Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNPC‑AG), or Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP‑BC).
• Minimum of 1 year of relevant clinical experience.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification within 30 days of hire.
