Infra Engineer - Datacenters

About the role

Railway is looking for a remote Infra Engineer to design, build, and operate datacenters worldwide. You will bridge hardware and software, ensuring performance, resilience, and reliability for millions of users.

Key responsibilities

• Design and procure $1M+ datacenter hardware, manage global supply chains, and create rack‑level layouts for optimal heat and energy efficiency.
• Build automated inventory management and PXE bootstrapping systems, and develop monitoring, alerts, and dashboards to pre‑empt failures.
• Write application‑level code using Golang, gRPC, and Postgres, and work directly with OS primitives such as syscalls and cgroups.
• Lead projects from zero to production, own on‑call rotations (1‑2 weeks per quarter), and document large tasks with RFCs and clear docs.

Required profile

• Hands‑on experience building production‑grade infrastructure and delivering end‑to‑end projects.
• Ability to operate with urgency and autonomy, especially in a fully remote environment.
• Strong communication skills for writing RFCs, docs, and collaborating across distributed teams.
