Industrial Hygienist – Citywide Exam (San Francisco)

About the role

The San Francisco Department of Public Health is seeking an Industrial Hygienist to support citywide health and safety initiatives. This permanent civil‑service position involves on‑site work across hospitals, clinics, and other public facilities, ensuring compliance with hazardous material regulations and protecting employee health.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct technically complex industrial hygiene monitoring of chemical, biological, and physical agents.
• Serve as a technical advisor on occupational safety and health regulations for departmental management.
• Identify, contain, and regulate the use and storage of hazardous materials.
• Develop, modify, and maintain health and safety programs and incident response policies.
• Investigate workplace hazards, coordinate remedial actions, and prepare detailed reports.

Required profile

• Experience performing industrial hygiene work under direction and independently conducting routine monitoring.
• Ability to serve as a technical resource for multiple city and county departments.
• Strong analytical skills for evaluating health and safety data and recommending corrective actions.
• Knowledge of city and state occupational safety and environmental regulations.
