HVAC Mechanic – Airport Utilities Division

About the role

The HVAC Mechanic will operate, maintain, and modify heating and air‑handling equipment to ensure efficient and safe operation of HVAC systems at Washington Dulles International Airport. This position supports the safety and comfort of airport users, staff, and tenants.

Key responsibilities

• Operate, maintain, and repair a wide range of HVAC equipment, including low‑pressure and high‑temperature boilers, chillers, air‑handling units, exhaust fans, and variable air volume boxes.
• Troubleshoot high‑pressure boilers, perform major repairs, and conduct preventive maintenance on HVAC systems.
• Use schematics and drawings to rebuild valves, calibrate equipment, and install ductwork and diffusers.
• Respond to trouble calls, adjust set points in energy management software, and serve as backup for water testing and treatment programs.

Required profile

• At least five years of progressive experience in HVAC repair and maintenance.
• Knowledge of heating, ventilating, and air‑conditioning theories and ability to recognize abnormal conditions.
• Ability to work safely with high‑pressure equipment and follow safety regulations.
• Valid state driver’s license in good standing and ability to operate vehicle airside and landside with an AOA permit.
