Design Project Manager (Electrical Engineer)

About the role

The Design Project Manager – Electrical Engineer will lead and provide technical direction for electrical engineering projects supporting the Airports Authority's Capital Construction and Maintenance programs across DCA, IAD, and the Dulles Toll Road.

Key responsibilities

• Manage electrical designs and projects for medium‑ and low‑voltage distribution, lighting, emergency power, building systems, controls, and fire alarm systems.
• Develop project requirements, design criteria, specifications, cost estimates, and oversee design consultants and A/E firms.
• Serve as Contracting Officer’s Technical Representative, monitoring consultant performance and administering technical requirements.
• Coordinate construction administration, including RFIs, submittal reviews, site visits, change order evaluation, and commissioning activities.
• Collaborate with civil, structural, mechanical, technology, security, and airport operations teams to integrate electrical work.

Required profile

• Six years of progressive experience in electrical engineering design or project management (master’s degree may substitute two years).
• Comprehensive knowledge of electrical engineering principles, NFPA standards, building codes, and applicable regulatory requirements.
• Proven ability to manage engineering and construction contracts, conduct design reviews, and oversee commissioning.
• Strong communication skills for interaction with engineers, contractors, airport staff, and stakeholders.
