About the role
The Design Project Manager will lead the expansion design of the Automated People Movers (APM) system at Washington Dulles International Airport. You will provide technical guidance, manage multidisciplinary design projects, and support construction, testing, and commissioning activities.
Key responsibilities
- Manage APM system expansion design projects, including long‑term planning, design coordination, construction support, and project delivery.
- Collaborate with engineers, architects, contractors, vendors, and regulatory officials to define system requirements and resolve technical issues.
- Serve as subject‑matter expert for APM systems, preparing engineering studies and incorporating industry best practices.
- Develop and maintain design standards, guidelines, and criteria in partnership with operational, safety, and security stakeholders.
- Review contract design firms’ work for technical accuracy, constructability, and compliance with standards.
- Lead testing, Operational Readiness, Activation, and Transition (ORAT), and commissioning activities for APM expansions.
- Act as Contracting Officer’s Technical Representative (COTR), monitoring contractor performance and ensuring compliance with Small Local Business Enterprise goals.
Required profile
- Six years of progressive experience in APM or mass‑transit rail systems design or operation (a master’s degree may substitute two years).
- Proven ability to manage multidisciplinary engineering and design projects and administer consulting contracts.
- Knowledge of APM system design, construction, operation, testing, commissioning, and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Ability to review engineering designs, specifications, shop drawings, and contractor submittals for compliance.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
