Human Resources Generalist

About the role

The Milton Family Community Center (MFCC) is looking for a part-time, non-exempt Human Resources Generalist (about 20 hours per week) who reports to the Executive Director. The role coordinates and administers HR functions, including payroll and benefits, recruitment and onboarding, and employee records and policies, supporting staff development, performance management and a compliant workplace.

Key responsibilities

• Process biweekly payroll accurately and on time, administer health, dental, vision and disability insurance, and support enrollment, changes and open enrollment.
• Work with the Executive Director on job descriptions and postings, coordinate interviews and onboarding/offboarding, and maintain personnel files.
• Support annual performance reviews, identify training needs, coordinate training and serve as a resource on HR policies and procedures.
• Maintain and review the employee handbook, keep employment records and comply with federal and Vermont employment laws.

Required profile

• Experience in HR, payroll or benefits administration or a related administrative role.
• Strong organizational skills, attention to detail and discretion with confidential information.
• Preferred: 3-5 years of HR/payroll/benefits experience, familiarity with federal and Vermont employment law, and nonprofit or small organization experience.

Required skills

• Proficiency with standard office software and willingness to learn organizational systems.

What we offer

• Pay of $30.00-$31.50 per hour, depending on education and experience.
• 14 paid holidays and prorated paid time off (about 5 sick days, 2 personal days and 5 vacation days for a 20-hour week).
• Eligibility for the retirement plan if earnings exceed $5,000.
