Histotechnologist

About the role

The Histotechnologist at Mercy Hospital, part of the Cleveland Clinic Health System, prepares high‑quality tissue samples that support accurate diagnoses and treatment decisions. This regular PRN position works days from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in an onsite laboratory environment.

Key responsibilities

• Perform routine and developmental immunochemistry and molecular laboratory techniques.
• Analyze assays for sensitivity and specificity.
• Embed and section frozen or paraffin‑embedded tissue, transport specimens to the lab.
• Conduct immunohistochemical and in‑situ hybridization procedures, handling probes and antibodies.
• Mount, label, and distribute prepared microscope slides.
• Prepare reagent buffers, solutions, and stains; replace reagents and maintain automated instrumentation.
• File surgical and autopsy blocks used for immunohistochemical techniques.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Microbiology, Chemistry or related field, or meet CLIA qualifications for Histotechnologist.
• Histotechnician (HT) or Histotechnologist (HTL) certification or eligibility through ASCP.
• Working knowledge of OSHA requirements for chemical hygiene and bloodborne pathogens.
• One year of bench or accredited histotechnology school experience preferred.
