Histologist – Florida Weston Hospital

Key responsibilities

• Process cytology, biopsy, and aspirate specimens received from other patient‑care areas.
• Perform immunocytochemical stains and assist the pathologist with immediate frozen sections.
• Arrange submission of tissue and gynecological specimens, including thin preps and prepared smears, to reference laboratories.
• Report instrument malfunctions, testing delays, reagent or supply issues to the pathologist or supervisor.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of work areas, following safety procedures and using personal protective equipment.
• Operate and troubleshoot histology instrumentation, performing maintenance checks, startups, and shutdowns as required.
• Provide technical support and consults to pathologists, physicians, and nursing staff.
• Follow quality control policies, ensuring controls are within acceptable limits before reporting patient results.

Required profile

• High school education and a current Florida license at the Histology or Cytology Technologist level.
• Associate’s degree or higher from a NACCLS‑approved Histotechnology program, or a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical or Biological Science (preferred).
• HT/L (ASCP) certification (preferred).
• Two years of hospital experience and ability to work with tissue processors (preferred).
