Heart Scrub

About the role

UChicago Medicine AdventHealth in Hinsdale, Illinois is hiring a full-time Heart Scrub for its surgical team. The scrub nurse anticipates the surgeon's needs and keeps the circulating nurse informed throughout a procedure, works 10-hour day shifts and is required to take call and holiday call.

Key responsibilities

• Assemble all necessary supplies, equipment and medications before the procedure and maintain high standards of quality and cost containment.
• Monitor aseptic technique of the entire surgical team and take immediate corrective action for any breaks in technique.
• Follow CDC isolation guidelines, use PPE appropriately and perform hand washing according to policy.
• Supervise other team members, assist with orientation and training of new personnel, and help with safe and efficient operating room turnover.
• Report environmental concerns, promote a safe environment and act in emergencies.
• Participate in practice changes from performance improvement activities and respond to complaints promptly.

Required profile

• High school graduate or equivalent; associate degree or technical/vocational school preferred.
• Currently enrolled in or has completed an accredited Surgical Technology program.
• 2+ years of technical experience preferred; 1+ year of relevant experience preferred.
• Basic Life Support (CPR) certification required; additional licensure or certification may apply depending on unit or state.

Required skills

• Aseptic/sterile technique and knowledge of surgical instrumentation.
• Knowledge of common healthcare concepts, procedures and regulatory requirements.
• Basic computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office.
• Clear communication, attention to detail, multitasking and teamwork.
