Certified Sterile Processing Technician

About the role

UChicago Medicine AdventHealth in Hinsdale, Illinois, is hiring a Certified Sterile Processing Technician for a full-time night-shift position (Monday to Friday schedule with rotating weekends and holidays, 10:45 pm to 7:15 am). The role covers sterilization of surgical instruments and equipment, inventory management and quality assurance.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain accurate records of sterilization activities and inventory levels.
• Operate sterilization equipment and inspect instruments, equipment and containers for cleanliness and proper function.
• Perform decontamination of soiled instruments, containers and equipment according to IFUs and protocols.
• Correct instrument sets according to standards, count sheets and tracking systems.
• Maintain proper inventory levels for case carts and run regular quality assurance audits of peers.
• Collaborate with the surgical team to ensure timely availability of sterilized instruments and equipment.
• Monitor and document sterilization processes, troubleshoot equipment issues and participate in continuous improvement.
• Train new staff and ensure proper handling and disposal of biohazardous materials.

Required profile

• Successful completion of an accredited school of Sterile Processing or Surgical Technology.
• 1+ year of sterile processing experience.
• Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) or Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT).
• High school graduate or equivalent; associate degree preferred.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) / CPR certification preferred.

Required skills

• Proficiency in English and knowledge of sterilization standards, surgical instrumentation and infectious control.
• Knowledge of medical terminology and prevention of cross-contamination.
• Basic computer skills and ability to adapt to change and work under pressure.
