HealthMarket Assistant Department Manager

About the role

Hy-Vee is hiring an Assistant Department Manager for its HealthMarket department in Grimes. Working alongside the Department Manager, you will help keep the department running smoothly, ensuring products are fresh, innovative and competitively priced while giving customers a welcoming experience. The role is hourly and reports to the Store Director, Store Manager, Assistant Managers of Health Wellness Home, Store Operations and Perishables, and the HealthMarket Department Manager.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver outstanding customer service, greet customers warmly, learn their names and help them find products, reach items, carry heavy purchases and answer questions
• Maintain product knowledge and stay current on wellness trends to guide customers
• Set and reset the sales floor, keep products stocked, neatly faced and the department clean and organized
• Receive merchandise, verify shipments, check in product, confirm delivery accuracy and log invoices
• Assist with pricing, inventory and vendor issue resolution on a daily basis
• Train new employees and help maintain department standards
• Follow sanitation procedures, keep the work area clean and safe, and step in to manage the department when the Department Manager is absent
• Assist with ordering product, comply with dress code and hygiene standards, and help in other store areas and on special projects

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent required
• 1 to 3 years of similar or related experience preferred
• Ability to stand and walk frequently during a shift, and to handle repetitive standing, walking, reaching and bending
• Where applicable: ability to safely use sharp knives and blades, exposure to heat and burn hazards, and ability to operate a delivery vehicle in line with DOT standards
• Exposure to dust, noise, equipment movement, cleaning products and solvents, and standard store electrical equipment

Required skills

• Basic math skills, including fractions, decimals and percentages
• Customer service, problem solving and decision making
• Organization and management of materials, guiding team members and handling confidential pricing and sales data
